Social maturity of children with autism spectrum disorders according to level of father¡¯s child-rearing involvement perceived by mothers

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the difference in social maturity of children with autism spectrum disorders in relation to father¡¯s level of child-rearing involvement. The participants of this study were special school teachers, special class teachers in regular schools, counselors, and mothers of 62 children between the ages of 7 and 15 years old diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders in Seoul, Gyeonggi province and ChungCheong province in South Korea. Social Maturity Scale and Father¡¯s Child-Rearing Involvement Scale were used for this study. Descriptive statistics, multivariate analysis of variance and analysis of variance were conducted to analyze the data. The findings of this study revealed that father¡¯s group with higher level of child-rearing involvement was significantly higher in social quotient(SQ) and subordinate factors of social maturity of children with autism spectrum disorders. SQ and each area of self-help, locomotion, occupation, communication, self-direction, and social relation were different according to father¡¯s level of child-rearing involvement.
